A Space to Breathe

Lived Experience & My Approach

As a little girl, I carried a quiet unease - little gasps threading through my days, a nervousness I didn’t yet understand. There was a subtle holding in my breath, a restlessness I couldn’t name. That undercurrent shaped how I moved through life and longed for spaces where I could truly be myself.

Eighteen years ago, I left Manchester, the only life I knew and moved to Australia. I fell in love with the reef, ran hostels, and immersed myself in nature and hostel life, surrounded by people being themselves. Scuba diving became my meditation, the outdoors my sanctuary, and along the way there were bungy jumps, skydives, and plenty of adventure. I learned to read people, often sensing what they needed without them saying it - a skill I came to use in building community at the hostel.


Then, wham. Single mum with a newborn and a two-year-old. I’d come out of a relationship where I had lost myself, and suddenly the weight of everything landed on my shoulders. Waves of grief, fear, anger, fight, flight, freeze, and sheer exhaustion rolled through me daily. I had no space to breathe, no roadmap, and the practical and emotional demands were immense.

 

It was in that intensity that breathwork found me. I didn’t choose it, it chose me. One session brought a thread of steadiness I could hold onto, breath by breath. What began there slowly became a relationship - a way to notice my body, create space, and begin to meet myself within it.

 

Over time, this work showed me that regulation isn't about being calm all the time. It's about building the capacity to move between activation and rest, effort and ease, joy, mess, stillness, and play - and to return. To feel, to choose, and to respond, rather than stay stuck in one state.

This work continues to unfold. I’ve trained in yoga, Reiki, and sound therapy, and became a swim teacher - continuing to explore movement, breath, and rhythm in both life and practice. My boys and I live this together - in the water, on hikes, camping, in community, and in everyday moments of adventure and rest.
 

Today, I offer 1:1 sessions, private groups, and workshops in Cairns, with options online and by arrangement - creating space for you to reconnect with your own rhythm, in your own way.
